A Journey of Healing…

The most current short film produced by Koncept Films in support of TheACY Survivors Foundation depicts one man’s journey through the healing process. On the third anniversary of a tragic collision Scott Devereaux ran a marathon distance over the Santa Monica Mountains to honor the memory of an amazing young woman and to raise funds for charity. This is his story of healing and honor, remembrance and redemption, tragedy and triumph…

A personal note from Scott“As a leader in TheACY Survivors Foundation, I know how lives can be forever changed by sudden tragedy. As a State-Licensed Investigator pulled into a deadly situation three years ago, I have become personally and acutely aware of how people can be healed and transformed through proper processing of such events…darkness to light…lead to gold. This is my tribute to Barbara and the Galvao family…”

Robert Mirabal Nominated for Third GRAMMY

Two-time GRAMMY award winner Robert Mirabal has been nominated for the third time in five years for his newest CD Johnny Whitehorse Riders of the Healing Road on Silverwave Records. Johnny Whitehorse is a character creation of Robert Mirabal, and the album was co-produced with Larry Mitchell, who is nominated for the second time.

As a follow-up to their 2008 GRAMMY award-winning Totemic Flute Chants, Riders of the Healing Road celebrates healing practioners from around the world. In equal parts soothing and meditative, rhythmic and joyful, Riders of the Healing Road takes Mirabal’s message of connectedness to the earth to a new level of international collaboration—focusing on gifted healers and those who seek healing.

Arrangements and instrumentation follow the successful formulae of the first two Johnny Whitehorse CDs with an array of Native flutes, tribal percussion, guitar, keyboards, digeridoo and select vocals. The album also features many world music influences—gongs, bowls, exotic string instruments and Sufi singers—and flows seamlessly from one musical moment to the next.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the medicine men and women I’ve met on my travels,” says Mirabal. “In ceremony they have taught me the healing of one is the healing of all, and encouraged me to collaborate with my music. Ultimately, music is my healer.”

The Native American Music category was initiated in 2001 and Mirabal won his first GRAMMY in 2006 as part of an ensemble recording Sacred Ground. Mitchell won his GRAMMY in 2008 for Totemic Flute Chants. The 52nd GRAMMY Awards will be telecast January 31, 2010 on CBS.

Koncept Films is a privately owned California company established in January 2001. Our principal purpose and business is to create independently financed theatrical motion pictures. The core philosophy of the Company is to develop and produce quality films that speak to the imagination, intellect, and primary senses; giving the audience a venue in which to explore new thoughts, ideas, and concepts. The intent is to gather together and encourage distinct, creative voices to speak out through the medium of independent film; telling stories that reflect diverse views, cultures, and philosophies.

The public is craving films of substance that reach beyond the exhausted formulas perpetuated by the major studios. The achievements of films such as SIDEWAYS, LOST IN TRANSLATION, CITY OF GOD, ONCE, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, and CRASH demonstrate that films need not be extravagantly expensive "tent pole" productions to be successful. In recent years, the movie market has become increasingly receptive to smaller productions featuring ensemble casts and intricately woven stories. We feel that this trend, when viewed in conjunction with the emergence of additional distribution channels, provides unique opportunities for independent production companies.

Over the next five years, we plan to produce three feature films and two or more documentaries that nourish this growing appetite for distinctive films. Effective use of digital technologies will constrain costs while alternative distribution methods will be used to maximize returns. Koncept Films is ideally positioned to take advantage of the fundamental changes sweeping the motion picture industry.
